This role is anticipated to be based within 240 miles of the border with Mexico, however, the final site location has yet to be determined.
About the Position The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Children and Families (ACF), and the Office of Refugee Resettlement's (ORR) Influx Care Facilities (ICF) care for 500 - 3,000 unaccompanied children (UC) crossing into the United States border.
You will provide educational services based on the individual academic development, literacy level, and linguistic ability of each UC in a structured classroom Monday through Friday, which concentrates primarily on the development of basic academic competencies, and secondarily on English Language Training.
The educational program includes instruction and educational and other reading materials in such languages as needed.
Basic academic areas should include Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, Writing and Physical Education.
In addition, UC's must be provided with appropriate reading materials in languages other than English for use during leisure time.
Key Responsibilities but not Limited to:
Conduct an Educational Assessment within 72-hours of a UC's admission into the facility in order to determine the academic level of the child and any particular needs he or she may have.
Plan and prepare lessons for each grade level and shall identify how the curriculum applies to each UC.
Prepare Academic Reports and Progress Notes in the UC's case file which is either sent to another care provider in the event of a transfer or released to the UC or the Sponsor upon discharge.
Monitor UCs progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Maintain line-of-sight supervision of assigned children at all times, ensuring the physical safety of the child.
Collaborate with other providers in the ICF on behavioral management policies and protocols.
Assist children in accessing services related to culture, language, and religious observances.
Take children for off-site recreation activities.
Report violent and inappropriate behavior.
Any other duties deemed necessary by HHS, ACF, and ORR to further develop the education of the students.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education 1 to 2 years of employment experience of teaching experience working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting will be preferred.
Drive and compassion to aid vulnerable populations.
Must be Bilingual - English & Spanish (written and oral).
Highly encouraged to apply if you speak any Mayan dialect and/or other language.
ESL Certification preferred.
CPR Certification Additional Information:
Shift work hours may vary.
Must be willing to undergo a background check.
Work includes sitting, walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items.
Must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement and Code of Conduct, which details required behavior by staff when supervising unaccompanied children.
Travel or relocation may be required.
